Three Monarchs Named To All-Region Squad

THREE SOCCER MONARCHS NAMED TO NSCAA ALL-SOUTH REGION SQUAD
NORFOLK, VA—ODU seniors Tim Hopkinson (Nottingham, England), Jayson Gaylord (Kendall, NY.) and Gideon Asante (Sunyani, Ghana) were all selected to the 2013 NSCAA All-South Region soccer team as released today. Co-captains Hopkinson and Gaylord were first team selections, while Asante was named to the second team.
Hopkinson, a forward was Conference USA’s Offensive Player of the Year, and was selected to the All-Tournament team. He is a semifinalist for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy, and as of this morning was in second place in the voting. A first team All-C-USA selection, Hopkinson led C-USA in total goals and total points and scored his second career hat trick with 3 goals vs. VMI. The team co-captain was selected C-USA Player of the Week on Sept. 23rd and on Oct. 14th, and NSCAA National Player of the Week on Oct. 15th. He ranks 11th nationally in total goals with 12, and 15th nationally in total points with 28. Hopkinson finished his career at ODU as the school’s fourth all-time leader with 33 career goals, third all-time at ODU in career points with 85 and seventh all-time in career assists with 19. He also had a league best six game-winning goals this season.
Jason Gaylord, the anchor to ODU’s defense was a first team All-Conference USA selection. He scored his two goals this year and was named to the ODU/Stihl Soccer Classic All-Tournament squad.
Gideon Asante, scored two goals with one assist for five total points this year. That included goals against then nationally ranked Charlotte and UAB. He also assisted on the game-winner against FIU. Asante completed his career at ODU with 15 goals and 15 assists for 45 career points. He ranks 12th all-time in career assists. The NSCAA/Coach’s All-American squad will be named later this week.
