Thunder Play to Tie in Double OT
OLIVET, Mich. - For the second time in as many days, the Trine University women’s soccer team went to double overtime, however this time they earned the tie with the Milwaukee School of Engineering 1-1. The Thunder are now 1-0-1 on the season.
Trine scored early as freshman Skyler Reed (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Carroll) netted her first collegiate goal just 12 minutes into the game. Sophomore Eleni Agelopolous (Munster, Ind./Munster) found Reed off a corner and buried it home from eight yards out.
The Raiders tied the game in the 31st minute as Caitlin Liddiard scored from inside the six yard box.
That is where the game would stand for the next 59 minutes, sending the Thunder to yet another overtime match.
In the first overtime, neither team was able to attempt a shot through the 10 minute frame. In the second overtime period the Raiders were able to attempt three shots, but none were able to find the net. For Trine, both Agelopolous and Reed had attempts to end it but neither shot came on target.
Freshman Sloan Davis (Olivet, Mich./Olivet) made 10 saves between the pipes, half of which came in the opening period.
On the afternoon, the Raiders out-shot Trine 19-9. Freshman Jamie McCarrell (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) led the Thunder with two shots on goal for the day.
Trine will take the week off before going back out on the road as they travel to Thomas More College for a two-day tournament where they face the Saints on September 8 at 1:00 p.m.
