Tigers Score Late to Top No. 13 Marauders
Philadelphia, Pa. – Holy Family scored the only goal of the match in the 89th minute to upset newly ranked No. 13 Millersville 1-0 on Tuesday at Tiger Field.
Millersville (9-5-1), which just moved back into the national rankings on Tuesday, outshot Holy Family (9-5-1) by a margin of 14-10 in the contest. But it was the Tigers who found the only goal of the game.
Through 88 minutes of play the game looked to be heading to overtime. Holy Family's Mark Ferretti saved all seven of Millersville's shots on goal, while Millersville's goalkeeper and reigning PSAC Soccer Athlete of the Week Brad Benzing stopped all three of the Tigers' scoring chances.
In the 89th minute, Holy Family found a goal to all but lock up the upset. Seydou Ba found teammate Keith Crews who put it past Benzing for the late, 1-0 lead.
The Marauders drove down the field in the last minute of play and fired off two shots. Ferretti made saves on both shots as time ran out to give the Tigers a 1-0 upset victory over Millersville.
Millersville resumes conference play on Thursday, Oct. 27 when it travels to Lock Haven for a rescheduled affair that was postponed earlier in the season due to severe weather. The Marauders and Bald Eagles are slated to kick off at 4 p.m.
