Tornado drop 3-1 decision to Carson-Newman
BRISTOL, Tenn. – On another rainy afternoon at Parks Field, the King University men's soccer team squared off against Carson-Newman University in a nonconference tilt. The Eagles netted three goals in the first half and played solid defense in the second half to hold on for the 3-1 road victory.
The Tornado (1-4-1) started on the attack early asEli Carrasco had a shot saved in the fifth minute, and Ryan Cobain had his first of five shots saved by Eagle keeper Rumwald Le Guevel in the eighth minute.
The play then moved to the other end of the field as Carson-Newman (3-2) had a par of shots blocked in the 10th minute. The Eagles broke through in the 16th minute when Ross Frame took a pass from Rurik Pereira and ripped a shot into the right side of the net to give Carson-Newman a 1-0 lead. King then had another barrage in a five minute stretch, starting with a Carrasco shot in the 50th minute. The Tornado registered two more shots in that time, and had two corner kicks, but couldn't find the back of the net.
King's best scoring opportunity may have come in the 77th minute as Cobain had a header go off the post. The ball than came back to his foot and he ripped a shot, but Le Guevel recovered to make the save and keep the score at 3-0.
