Tornado fall to #22 Limestone 1-0
BRISTOL, Tenn. – On Wednesday afternoon, the King University men's soccer team faced conference foe, and #22 nationally ranked Limestone College. The Saints netted a goal in the 10 minute to take the lead. King had chances in both halves, but couldn't tally the equalizer as they fell 1-0.
Only 10 minutes into the contest, the Saints (6-1, 3-0 CC) had a cross go through the box, but Sam Orritt was there to redirect the ball to Jorge MacKenna who slid his shot past the keeper to put Limestone ahead with their first shot of the game.
In the 20th minute, Eli Carrasco gave the Tornado their best scoring opportunity up to that point in the match as he took a pass from Ryan Cobain on the right side of the field. Carrasco got behind the defense and ripped his shot, but Saints goalkeeper Kyle Karagitz came up with the save.
Limestone kept the pressure on the King all game and the Tornado defense stood up to the task. The Saints ripped eight shots in the second frame, putting two on net. However, freshman goalkeeperKari Sveinsson made sure that the Saints wouldn't add onto their lead as he smothered both of Limestone's second half shots. Sveinsson ended the match with three saves.
The Tornado (1-5-1, 1-1 CC) had chances in the second half, but couldn't convert as they took three shots in the frame. King's best scoring opportunity may have come with five minutes remaining asChris Hicks dribbled through the Limestone defense and got to the top of the box, but he couldn't get a shot off as Limestone escaped with the 1-0 win.
Limestone outshot King 14-6, and had more corner kicks at 7-1. However, the Tornado registered three saves to Limestone's two.
King will be in action again on Saturday when they travel to Belmont Abbey College. Kickoff from Belmont, N.C., is set for 3:00 p.m.
