Trine Fall in Tough Road Game
ADRIAN, Mich. - Against a very tough offensive team, the Trine University women’s soccer team fell in their version of the Black and Blue Border Brawl to Adrian College 5-1. The Thunder held Adrian scoreless in the second half but the loss drops them to 1-5 on the year and 0-4 in conference play.
The goals came fast and furious early on as the Bulldogs scored just three minutes in. Adrian would add another a14:53 before the Thunder finally got on the board. Sophomore Jamie McCarrell (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) scored her first of the season as she took advantage of a miscommunication between a Bulldogs defender and their goalie at 15:58. However, Adrian struck back just 29 seconds later to go up 3-1.
The Bulldogs would add goals at 22:43 and 33:32 to take a 5-1 lead at the half. Adrian out-shot the Thunder 14-3 in the first half with all three Trine shots coming off the foot of McCarrell.
The second half saw the Thunder close the shot gap as Adrian held just a 9-6 advantage, but only one Trine shot came on net.
In goal for the Thunder sophomore Sloan Davis (Olivet, Mich./Olivet) made seven saves on the night.
Trine will take the weekend off before returning to action at Olivet on Sept. 24 at 4 p.m.
