Trine Feels the Hornets Sting
KALAMAZOO, Mich. - An early goal forced the Trine University women’s soccer team to play from behind for most of their game as they were unable to mount a comeback in their 3-0 loss to Kalamazoo. The loss drops the Thunder to 1-7-2 on the season and 0-5-1 in the MIAA.
The Hornets would score the only goal they would need just three minutes into the game as Maya Smolcic slipped the ball past Trine freshman goalkeeper Sloan Davis (Olivet, Mich./Olivet)
Kalamazoo would add goals in the 57th and 71st minutes as the Thunder were unable to close the gap in the second half.
Davis finished the night with 10 saves, including seven in the first half alone, while facing 31 shots.
Trine’s lone shot on goal game from sophomore Melissa Smiles (Davisburg, Mich./Holly) in the fifth minute. Freshman Skyler Reed (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Carroll) attempted Trine’s only other shot, which came early in the first half.
Trine will travel to Alma to battle the defending conference champs on September 29 at noon.
