Trine Men Drop Tough Road Contest
ALBION, Mich. - In a game where nothing seemed to go their way, the Trine University men’s soccer team fell to MIAA foe Albion 8-2. The Thunder fall to 2-6-1 on the year and 0-4 in conference play.
The Britons scored three early goals in the 8th, 21st and 26th minutes as they took a lead into halftime they would never relinquish. Junior Karston Shepard (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) would get the Thunder on the board just 4:09 into the second half as he scored his first goal of the season.
Albion would then score four goals in less than 10 minutes of play, including one on an own goal of the Thunder. Down 7-1, senior Samuel Seibolt (Olathe, Kan./DeSoto) gave the Thunder a lift with his second goal of the season, and third of his career with just under 13 minutes remaining in the half. Albion would add their final goal with 10 minutes remaining in the game on a penalty kick.
For the match, the Thunder held Albion to just 12 shots, but 11 of them came on net while the Thunder had just five shot attempts for the game.
Junior Chris Stewart (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) made two stops in goal for the Thunder in just under 62 minutes of play. Freshman Ian Jindrich (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) came on for the final 28 minutes recording a save.
The eight goals allowed by the Thunder were the most since dropping a 9-0 game at Hope on Oct. 16, 2004.
The Thunder return home where they host Adrian on homecoming weekend, Oct. 5 beginning at 7 p.m. under the lights of the Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.
