Trine Women Fall Short on Senior Day
ANGOLA, Ind. - The Trine University women’s soccer team fell to visiting Saint Mary’s College by a score of 3-0 on Senior Day. Despite the score, the Thunder fought hard on a day where they honored their lone senior, Ruth Feliciano (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland).
The Thunder (1-15-3, 0-13-2 MIAA) would hold the visiting Belles to a scoreless first half, but Saint Mary’s got the momentum in the 60th minute with a laser kick from 45 yards out to the top right corner of the net. That would be the only goal needed, as the Thunder failed to score in the game.
The Belles would add two more goals the first coming in the 66th minute after a breakaway and give and go led to a goal to the far left corner. The second came at the 75th minute when a failure of Thunder defense to clear the ball led to a chip over the goalie’s head and into the right side of the net.
Freshman goalie Sloan Davis (Olivet, Mich./Olivet) recorded 11 saves in the loss.
Freshmen Skyler Reed (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Carroll) and Jamie McCarrell (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) led the Thunder with three shots a piece. Sophomore Amy Williams (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Northrop), Freshman Jordyn Rogers (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Snider) and Feliciano each had one shot on the day.
Trine will finish out their season at home on Halloween, October 31, at 3:00 p.m. when they face Alma College.
