Trine Women falls to Defending Champs
ANGOLA, Ind. - It was a tough afternoon for the Trine University women’s soccer team as they did their best to hold the defending conference champion Calvin College off the scoreboard, but in the end it was the Knights taking the game 4-0. The loss drops the Thunder to 1-3 on the year and 0-2 in conference play.
Trine’s best opportunity to score on the toughest defense in the conference came just 20 seconds in as junior Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) had a breakaway opportunity. King had an open look at the net but the ball sailed just right of the post.
The Thunder held the Knights scoreless until late in the second half when Christina Drost scored at 29:33. Calvin would add a goal less than three minutes later to lead 2-0 at the half.
The Knights added two more goals in the second half including one less than 10 minutes into period.
King led the Thunder on the night with two shots while fellow junior Eleni Agelopoulos (Munster, Ind./Munster) had Trine’s lone shot on goal.
Senior Jamie Schnarr (Kettering, Ohio/Kettering Fairmont) took the loss for the Thunder in goal while recording six saves.
Trine will travel to Hope on Sept. 14 for a game under the lights starting at 7 p.m.
