Trine Stung by Hornets at Home
ANGOLA, Ind. - For the second straight game, the Trine University women’s soccer team played a very competitive game but came up just short this time Kalamazoo 1-0. The Hornets would score their only goal late in the first half, as Hornet’s Emma Tardiff shot barely rolled into the back of the net. The Thunder (2-9, 1-8 MIAA), while managing nine shots on the day, could not find a way to put up a goal of their own on the board.
The opening minutes saw plenty of action with seven combined shots in the first 18 minutes. The game flowed smoothly with a limited number of fouls being called on either side.
Kalamazoo’s Elizabeth Clevanger and Tardiff connected on a key pass in the 41st minute. Tardiff’s shot from inside 10 yards found its way under the Trine goalie who had come out to play the ball to lead it at the half.
Trine tried to generate some offense but were unable to connect on a few opportunities that they had. The Thunder would get one final good look late in the game when a short-range shot fell just outside to the right of the net.
Senior goalkeeper Jamie Schnarr (Kettering, Ohio/Kettering Fairmont) had eight saves on the day for Trine.
Trine's next matchup is on the road at Calvin College on Oct. 12 at 12 p.m.
