Tulsa Captures 1-0 Win Over Temple
Emilie Torres scored the lone goal of the contest to give Tulsa a 1-0 win over Temple on Thursday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Golden Hurricane moved to 7-6 on the season and 1-2 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Owls fell to 3-6-3 overall and 1-2 in the league.
“It was a tale of two halves,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “In the first half we did a really good job, controlled the tempo, kept the ball well, created some good chances and got the goal, but then going against the wind I felt like we panicked a little bit and we weren’t possessing the ball like we should have. We will take an ugly win over a loss every day, but especially in conference. Conference is a grind and we are happy to win at home for sure.”
Torres headed the ball into the lower left corner of the net off a cross from Ashlan Hustava at the 16:30 mark for the only goal of the contest.
The Golden Hurricane had a 15-14 edge in shots, including a 7-6 lead in shots on goal, and a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Torres and Averee Dubach both had a team-high three shots, while Liliana Fernandez, Addyson Guthrie and Mia Darden all had two attempts. Mica MacKay logged all 90 minutes in goal, picked up six saves and earned the shutout.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, October 6 against UConn. Game time is set for 1:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
