Tulsa Captures 2-1 OT Win Against ECU
The Tulsa women’s soccer team captured a 2-1 overtime win against East Carolina on Friday night at the Johnson Soccer Stadium in Greenville, N.C. TU moved to 13-4-1 on the season and 4-3-1 in American Athletic Conference play, while ECU fell to 7-9-2 overall and 2-5-1 in the league.
“I thought we played with a lot of resiliency tonight,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “I was proud of the way we played. ECU is a tough place to play, plus tonight they were fighting for a spot in the American Athletic Conference tournament and for their seniors on senior night. They came out with a lot of determination and scored on us early, but we responded well and continued to get better as the game went on. For us, we need to find a way to start games better, but it was great to see Kajal get her first goal of the season and an assist because it is nice to see her hard work get results.”
Danielle Eule put the Pirates on the board with just 3:29 ticked off the clock as she shot from five yards out into the top right corner off a pass from Jackie Cajigal. Neither team found the back of the net for the remainder of the half as ECU took a 1-0 advantage into the break.
Christina Holmes evened the score in the 72nd minute off a combination from Tana Dake and Kajal Parmar and the score remained tied at the end of regulation.
Parmar scored her own goal in the 91st minute off a long pass from Rachel Thun to win the game for TU.
Tulsa had a 16-12 lead in shots, including an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal, and a 7-3 lead in corner kicks.
Thun had a team-best four shots, while Parmar added three attempts, and Dake and Homes both had two tries. Courtney McKeon logged all 90 minutes between the posts for four saves.
Tulsa will conclude the regular season against Cincinnati on Sunday, October 25. Game time is set for 12:00 pm Central in Cincinnati, Ohio.
