Tulsa Captures 3-1 Win Overl Oral Roberts
The Tulsa women’s soccer team captured a 3-1 win over crosstown rival Oral Roberts to claim the Spectrum Cup on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 4-3-1 on the season, while ORU fell to 4-6 overall.
“It is always a battle,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “This is my 20th time to be in this match, and it doesn’t matter the records, or if one team is playing better than the other, because each team gets up for each other. I’m proud of the way our girls came out with intensity and played hard from the very start. We were good tonight for two-thirds of the game we played the way we wanted to play.”
Coach Cussen is undefeated against Oral Roberts in his time at Tulsa, owning an 8-0-3 mark against the Golden Eagles. His previous nine games in this matchup came during his time as the ORU head coach.
Anna Williams scored her fourth goal of the season as she headed in a rebound attempt that was taken by Valiree Morris and was saved by Reagan Richins at the 20:58 mark.
Darden also earned her fourth goal of the season as she shot from eight yards out on the right side into the lower right corner to put Tulsa up 2-0, but Jordan Langebartels got one back for the Golden Eagles in the 69th minute as she shot from 15 yards out on the right side.
Alyssa Kaiser recorded a score in the 77th minute, her first of the season, as she shot from 25 yards out on the right side.
Morris and Kaiser each had a team-best five shots, while Neha Igwe added four attempts, and Williams, Addyson Guthrie and Reagan Whitlow each had two shots. Mica MacKay logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up four saves.
Tulsa had a 22-10 lead in shots, including an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal, and a 6-1 lead in corner kicks.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, September 16th as TU hosts Kansas State beginning at 2:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
