Tulsa Drops 2-0 Decision to #11 Texas A&M
The Tulsa women’s soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to 11th-ranked Texas A&M on Sunday night at Ellis Field in College Station, Texas. TU fell to 1-2-1 on the season, while the Aggies moved to 2-2 overall.
“We played pretty well in the first half and went into the locker room, although down 1-0, feeling like we were still in it,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “We came out in the second half and created some good chances to score, but then gave up a silly goal on a miscommunication late in the game to go down 2-0. When you are on the road and play a top-15 team at their place you can’t make those mistakes. There is a lot we can learn from this weekend, but I am proud of the way we played and kept our composure. There are a lot of positives we can take back to Tulsa from this weekend.”
Brittany Crabtree put Texas A&M on the board at the 34:52 mark as she punched in a 15-yard score off an assist from Ashlynn Harryman. Cienna Arrieta gave the Aggies a two-goal cushion in the 81st minute.
Texas A&M had a 35-12 lead in shots, including a 13-6 advantage in shots on goal, and an 11-4 lead in corner kicks.
Tana Dake had a team-best three shots, all of which were on goal, while Jorja Hughes came in off the bench and added two attempts. Rebecca Defer logged all 90 minutes between the posts and picked up 11 saves.
Tulsa will host Missouri State in the home opener on Friday, September 2. Game time is set for 7:30 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
“It is tough to go on the road three weeks in a row, so we are very excited to get back home, get in a routine and play six home games,” Cussen said.
