Tulsa Drops 2-0 Decision to Houston
The Tulsa women’s soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Houston on Sunday afternoon at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Golden Hurricane fell to 8-10 on the season and 2-6 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Cougars moved to 6-12 overall and 3-5 in the league.
“I thought we created some good chances in both halves, but especially in the second half,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “It just didn’t seem to bounce our way, which is unfortunate because both teams were fighting for a conference playoff spot. We were very evenly matched, and it was a game that could have gone either way, but we were unfortunate it went the way it did. I though our kids came out today with a lot of fight and I’m proud of that.”
Desiree Brown put the Cougars on the board at the 17:05 mark as she picked up a through ball from Nolin Parker and shot from 12 yards out up the middle. Jazmin Grant made it a two-goal cushion in the 49thminute off of combination play from Bowen and Parker for the final score.
Both teams had 16 shots, including nine on goal, while Houston had a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
Emily Brandenburg, Emilie Torres, Kayla Fernandez, Reagan Whitlow, Averee Dubach and Addyson Guthrie all had two shots, while four others had one attempt. Mica MacKay logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up seven saves.
Tulsa will return to action in their final regular season contest on Thursday, October 31 against Memphis. Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
