Tulsa Drops 2-0 Decision to Kansas
The Tulsa women’s soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Kansas in the home opener on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU fell to 0-2-1 on the season, while KU moved to 2-1 overall.
“We have to start better and the frustrating this is we’ve talked about that for two years now,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “At the end of the day the game-winning goal got scored on us in the first four minutes. We had a great crowd tonight and I don’t think we put our best foot forward. Credit Kansas. They did a great job of putting us on our back foot. We’ve got to take care of our opportunities and create more opportunities. With our schedule right now we can’t have a bad game; we have to take the game to other people. It doesn’t get any easier from here, but I still believe in this team. We are good, but we have to realize it as a group to put our best foot forward.”
Grace Hagan gave Kansas an early lead as she drilled in score from 16 yards out into the lower left corner off a pass from Katie McClure with just 3:22 ticked off the clock. Kayla Morrison put the Jayhawks up 2-0 in the 18th minute as she headed in a corner kick taken by Lois Heuchan.
Neither team found the back of the net for the remainder of the contest for the 2-0 final.
Rachel Thun-Blankenship came in off the bench after missing the first two regular season games of the season due to injury and had a team-best three shots in 32 minutes of play. Tana Dake added two attempts, while McKenzi McAdams had one shot. Rebecca Defer logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up four saves.
Kansas had a 14-6 lead in shots, including a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal, and a 10-4 lead in corner kicks.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, August 27 against Oklahoma. Game time is set for 6:00 pm in Norman, Okla., and can be viewed live on Fox Sports Oklahoma.
