Tulsa Drops 3-1 Decision to UCF
The Tulsa women’s soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to UCF on Sunday afternoon at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Golden Hurricane fell to 6-8-1 on the season and 2-4 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Knights moved to 8-4-1 overall and 5-1 in the league.
“I thought we were good at times, but we were a bit unfortunate to give up that early goal and that gave UCF some confidence,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “I thought we rebounded from that, did some good things defensively and created some chances in the second half. I was proud of the effort and how we played, just disappointed in the result.”
Madison Murnin gave UCF an early lead as she punched in a goal from 18 yards out at the 6:25 mark. Murnin scored on a combination of two forward passes from Samantha Chung and Stefanie Sanders.
Sanders scored her own goal in the 61st minute as she dribbled up the middle and shot from 15 yards outs, and then Piper Dotsikas posted a goal from seven yards out off a cross from Murnin.
Gabriella Borboa scored the lone Hurricane goal in the 86th minute off a pass from Reagan Whitlow on the right side.
UCF had a 20-11 lead in shots, including a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal, and a 14-5 lead in corner kicks.
Danielle Hoover, Neha Igwe, Fabi Miguel and Borboa all had two shots apiece, while three others had one attempts. Mica MacKay logged 80:17 in goal and picked up five saves, while Kay Jones played the final 9:43 between the posts and had no saves.
