Tulsa Earns 3-1 Win Over Missouri State
The Tulsa women’s soccer team earned a 3-1 win over Missouri State on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 2-2-1 on the season, while MSU fell to 0-3-1 overall.
“It is nice to be home,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “We’ve spent the last three weekends on the road and I think we were a little amped up to play at home today. To give up a goal in the first 22 seconds wasn’t ideal, but we showed some resiliency there and scored less than a minute later. I was proud of the fact that we went into halftime up 2-1, but we made some adjustments and the girls really responded in the second half.”
With just 22 seconds ticked off the clock Brooke Prondzinski put Missouri State on the board as she punched in a goal from three yards out off a cross from Rachel Catrell. Just under 40-seconds later Tulsa’s Anna Williams scored her second goal of the season as she drilled in a cross from Rachel Thun to even the score.
Thun gave TU the go-ahead goal in the 29th minute as she headed in a score off a pass from Ashlan Hustava and the Golden Hurricane took that 2-1 lead into the break.
Thun scored again at the 69:41 mark off a pass from Tana Dake.
Thun had a team-best seven shots, six of which were on goal, while Sierra Krenik and Williams both had two attempts. Rebecca Defer logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up five saves.
The Hurricane had a 14-10 lead in shots, including a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal, and a 7-3 lead in corner kicks.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, September 4 against Houston Baptist. Game time is set for 2:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
