Tulsa Falls to #21 UConn, 4-2
The Tulsa women’s soccer team dropped a 4-2 decision to #21 UConn on Thursday night at the Joseph J. Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Conn. TU fell to 4-6-1 on the season and 0-1 in the American Athletic Conference, while the Huskies moved to 9-2 overall and 1-0 in the league.
“We played with a lot of heart and energy tonight,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “I thought it was probably the best possession we’ve kept all year long and we created some really good chances, but UConn is just good at what they do. They are a good team, but I thought we played well and battled to the end.”
Rachel Hill put the Huskies on the board with just 10:40 ticked off the clock off an assist from Stephanie Ribeiro, but Anna Williams evened the score just under a minute later as she drilled in a rebound attempt taken by Rachel Thun.
Ribeiro gave UConn the go-ahead goal in the 22nd minute with Maddie Damm earning the assist, and the Huskies took that 2-1 advantage into the break.
Hill scored her second goal of the contest at the 72:48 mark, again off an assist by Ribeiro, but Thun got one back just 32 seconds later for TU off a pass from Alyssa Kaiser. Ribeiro then got her second score on the night in the 78th minute for the final 4-2 score.
UConn had a 23-6 lead in shots, including a 15-4 advantage in shots on goal, and a 6-5 lead in corner kicks.
Thun had a team-best two shots, while four others had one attempt. Courtney McKeon logged all 90 minutes between the posts and picked up 11 saves.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, October 2 against Temple. Game time is set for 12 p.m. Central in Philadelphia, Pa.
