Tulsa Falls to Oklahoma, 3-2 (OT)
The Tulsa women’s soccer team dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to Oklahoma on Friday night in the Tulsa Invitational at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU fell to 3-3-1 on the season, while OU moved to 4-2-1 overall.
“Oklahoma came out on fire in the first 15 minutes and put us under extreme pressure, but we weathered that storm,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “We were trying to just maintain after giving up the goal in the first half, but at halftime we made some adjustments and the girls responded well. We put a lot of heart and effort into tonight’s game, but it is unfortunate to get this result. It was a group effort and I thought the team really battled and gave OU everything they had.”
Rachel Ressler put the Sooners on the board at the 27:20 mark as she punched in a rebound attempt taken by Liz Keester.
Rachel Thun evened the score in the 62nd minute as she picked up a long ball from Lana Bermel, went one-on-one with the keeper and shot from 10 yards out. Less than a minute later Keester found the back of the net to give OU a 2-1 lead, but in the 86th minute freshman Annabeth Fouts headed in a corner kick taken by Tana Dake to force overtime.
The Sooners’ Shiloh Price scored the game-winning goal at the 92:02 mark to end the game.
Oklahoma had a 20-6 lead in shots, including an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal, and a 4-2 lead in corner kicks.
Dake and Thun both had two shots, while Christina Holmes and Fouts each added one attempt. Rebecca Defer logged all 92:02 in goal and picked up eight saves.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, September 11 against Rice. Game time is set for 3:30 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
