Tulsa Falls to Oklahoma, 3-2, in Overtime
The Tulsa women’s soccer team battled Oklahoma, but dropped a 3-2 overtime decision on Sunday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU fell to 2-1 on the season, while OU moved to 3-0-1 overall.
“We got scored on in the first five minutes, which I think was anxiety and settling into the game, but after that I felt like we played really well, especially in the first half when we were able to control the midfield,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “OU made some changes at half that combatted our midfield play and they fought to make it 2-2 after our early second half goal. I am proud of the effort, and the fact that our kids are disappointed and knew we were able to play with a Big 12 opponent shows the character of our team and where this team is going.”
Yuuka Kurosaki put the Sooners on the board with just 2:17 ticked off the clock off an assist from Ivanna Rivas. Just under 23 minutes later Averee Dubach evened the score as she drilled in a free ball from 18 yards out from the left to the upper right-hand corner of the net. Neither team found the back of the net for the remaining 20 minutes of the first half and went into the locker room tied, 1-1.
Aubrey Lechlider gave the Golden Hurricane the go-ahead goal at the 47:08 mark off a pass from Ashlan Hustava and TU maintained the lead for the next 25 minutes off the clock. Kaylee Dao evened the score once again in the 73rdminute and the contest went into overtime. Dao scored again in the 98thminute to give the Sooners the win.
Reagan Whitlow had a team-best four shots, two of which were on goal, while Anna Williams and Emilie Torres each had two attempts. Mica MacKay logged all 97:57 in goal and picked up five saves.
Oklahoma had a 17-11 lead in shots, including an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal, and a 5-2 lead in corner kicks.
Tulsa will return to action on Friday, September 6 against Grambling State. Game time is set for 7:30 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
