Tulsa Takes Down Oklahoma Baptist, 2-0
The University of Tulsa women’s soccer squad defeated Oklahoma Baptist, 2-0, on Thursday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 1-1 on the season.
“We struggled early on getting our spacing,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “But as the game went on, we started doing a lot better job of that. That was evident in our first goal.”
In the 39th minute, redshirt freshman Gabriella Borboa broke through the defense on a through ball from Alyssa Kaiser, slotting the ball in the upper left corner from 15 yards out to put the Golden Hurricane up, 1-0.
Tulsa extended its lead at the 65:01 mark on a shot 12 yards out by Alzbeta Chlumova. After a pass from forward Anna Williams, Chlumova dribbled the ball, slotting it past the goalkeeper to put TU up, 2-0.
The Golden Hurricane outshot the Bison 14-8 in the contest, six of which coming on goal. Forward Mia Darden led the attack with three shots, while Kaiser and junior Reagan Whitlow each added two attempts. Tulsa also held a 5-1 lead in corner kicks.
Keeper Mica Mackay logged all 90 minutes between the posts, saving four of the OBU shots on goal.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, August 26 against Illinois State. Game time is set for 1:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
