Tulsa Women Battle Memphis to 0-0
The Tulsa women’s soccer team battled Memphis to a 0-0 double overtime tie on Thursday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 9-1-1 on the season and 0-0-1 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Tigers moved to 4-3-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the league.
“Well of course we would have liked to get three points at home, but we’ll take a point in the conference standings,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “Memphis is a very good team, they finished second last year, and it was a game we lost last year. I thought we did some things really well in the back, including getting the shutout, and I feel like our midfield was really strong tonight and we created some good chances. There is a lot we can take from tonight.”
Memphis had a 14-12 lead in shots, including a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal, while TU had an 8-4 lead in corner kicks.
Rachel Thun had a team-best three shots, while Roman Edwards and Tana Dake each had two attempts. Courtney McKeon logged all 90 minutes between the posts, picked up four saves and earned her fourth shutout on the season.
Tulsa will return to action on Thursday, October 1 against SMU. Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
