Two Goals By Jennings Leads Eagles To Victor

Boston College scored four second half goals on its way to a 4-1 victory over Providence on Friday night at Chapey Field in Rhode Island. Freshman Kayla Jennings scored two goals while sophomore Gaby Carreirohad two assists.
TURNING POINT
Freshman Jenna Bike scored her first collegiate goal in the 59th minute which tied the game at 1-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Providence went up 1-0 off a first half corner kick in the 24 minute. Kathryn Hiller scored off a header to the far post. Kayla Steeves had the assist.
- BC came out strong in the second half and turned the momentum when rookie Jenna Bike one-timed a cross from sophomore Gaby Carreiro into the far post for a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute.
- Bike's goal sparked the offense as Kayla Jennings, another first-year player, scored off a loose ball in the box just six minutes later. Providence failed to clear a corner kick and Jennings pounced on the rebound off the cross from Carreiro.
- The Eagles lead grew to 3-1 when Jennings headed in a rebound off the crossbar in the 74th minute of the game.
- Senior Hayley Dowd scored her first goal of the season with four minutes to play when she stole the ball from a Providence defender. Dowd broke in alone and placed the ball to the hear post to give BC a 4-1 lead.

- "I thought we made the necessary adjustments int he second half and came out with a much better tempo,'' said coach Alison Foley. "It's a solid road win and now we need to focus on Arizona State.''
GAME NOTES
- Rookies Jade Ruiters, Jenna Bike and Samantha Hiatt all started for the first time in their collegiate careers.
- Sophomore Gaby Carreiro picked up where she left off last year. The Eagles midfielder/defender led the team in assists last year with seven. She had two in the second half which helped turn the game around for the Eagles.
- Sophomore Alexis Bryant picked up her seventh career victory and 15th career start tonight in goal.
- Tonight's goal by Hayley Dowd is her 33rd career strike. She is now fifth on the all-time list of goal scorers in BC's history.
- Boston College had 14 corner kicks, which resulted in two goals. The Eagles also had the edge in shots, 19-2. McKenzie Meehan had seven shots while Dowd, Bike and Jennings had three shots apiece.
UP NEXT
Boston College will host Arizona State on Sunday (1 p.m.) at the Newton Soccer Field. Arizona State defeated Boston University on Friday night, 2-1.
