UC Davis and Pacific battle to a 0-0 draw
UC Davis owned possession for a majority of Sunday's non-conference contest at Knoles Field, outshot Pacific 25-9, a new season high that is more than twice the number of shots taken against North Dakota State (14), the previous mark, and recorded twice as many shots on goal compared to the Tigers in a match that ended in a 0-0 tie in double overtime.
Sunday's battle between former Big West foes -- Pacific now competes in the West Coast Conference -- also marked the second straight overtime contest for the Aggies.
The draw, UC Davis' first of the season, pushes its record to 5-2-1. The Tigers will continue their season with a 1-4-1 mark.
After outshooting the Tigers by a 7-4 margin in the first half, UC Davis created scoring chances at will throughout the following half and recorded 13 shots. By comparison, Pacific was only able to muster three shots.
Led by Andi Damian with five, Crystal Crump, Rachel Smith and Celina Minissian each posted four shots. Were it not for the efforts of Pacific netminder Lena Perry, one member of the Aggies' quartet would have found the back of the net as it was Perry's efforts that singlehandedly prevented UC Davis from posting, what could have otherwise been, a blowout score.
On the opposite side of the field, UC Davis' backline and goalkeeper prevented Pacific from generating any dangerous scoring opportunities throughout the day.
Aggie goalkeeper Rachel Smith ended the afternoon with five saves.
UC Davis' local road swing will continue on Thursday when the Aggies visit Palo Alto on Thursday, Sept. 17, to face No. 2 Stanford.
