The Knights (1-2-0) are coming off a last-second victory over Florida Atlantic on Sept. 5. Junior forward Romario Williams, a candidate for the Hermann Trophy, converted a penalty kick for a goal with nine-seconds remaining after teammate freshman Matias Pyysalo down by the goalkeeper in the box.
The Portmore, Jamaica, native has recorded seven game-winning goals in his career at UCF, including six in the eight wins by UCF last year.
Senior goalkeeper Sebastian Evers has been strong for the Knights in net, registering 17 saves including five in the shutout vs. the Owls. The Miami, Fla., native moved into seventh on the school's all-time saves list at 155.
Junior defender Mason Miller helped solidify the Knights' back line against FAU and earned acknowledgement to The American Honor Roll.
The Zips are tough on their home field, holding an impressive 119-15-17 (.788) record since 2007. Akron captured the 2010 NCAA Championship and has earned a total of 16 MAC regular season titles.
Akron (0-2-1) is seeking its first win of the season after opening the campaign with losses at New Mexico (1-0) and South Florida (2-1 2OT) and registering in a 1-1 draw at Florida Gulf Coast. Stuart Holtrhusen and Adam Najem have notched the goals for the Zips, while goalkeeper Jake Fenlason has posted a 1.16 goal against average and 20 saves.
Charleston enters the weekend with a two-match win streak after defeating Georgia State (2-0) and North Florida (4-0). The Cougars started the campaign with losses to UC Santa Barbara (2-1) and Seattle (0-2).
Nico Rittmeyer has totaled six points including a game-winning goal to lead Charleston. Posting a 1.00 goals against average and 16 saves is goalkeeper Brian Kilgallon.
The Knights return to the UCF Soccer Complex on Sept. 17 against North Florida with the kick set for 7 p.m.
