TRITONS SEARCH FOR FIRST CCAA WINS TO CONCLUDE FIVE-GAME HOMESTAND
The UC San Diego women's soccer team wraps up a season-long five-game homestand this week with a pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) contests. The Tritons (4-3, 0-2 CCAA) first host Cal State East Bay (3-5, 1-1 CCAA) on Friday, Sept. 25, in primetime at 7 p.m. They then welcome regular conference contender Stanislaus State on Sunday, Sept. 27, for a 2 p.m. kickoff. Both matches at Triton Soccer Stadium are the second halves of doubleheaders with the UCSD men, who lead things off at 4:30 p.m. and 11:30 a.m., respectively. The Tritons are 3-2 in La Jolla this season.

A LOOK BACK AT LAST WEEK
UCSD dropped a pair of 3-2 overtime heartbreakers at home last week to begin the 12-game league slate. The Tritons first relinquished a 2-0 lead through Katie O'Laughlin's first college brace, giving up an 89th-minute equalizer followed by an own goal at 96:21 to fall to Cal Poly Pomona on Friday. Then on Sunday, UCSD rallied from a 2-0 deficit against Cal State San Bernardino, getting first career goals from redshirt sophomore Maxia Espino on a well-taken free kick in the 75th, and true freshman Summer Bales on a powerful header in the 85th off a Mary Reillycross. It was the visiting Coyotes, however, who found the overtime decider at 97:00.
TRITONS IN REGION POLL
UCSD dropped from eighth to 10th in the third edition of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) West Region poll, released on Tuesday.
BRODSKY BROADENS CAREER CREDENTIALS, ECLIPSES 300-SAVE PLATEAU
Kelcie Brodsky continues to add to her stellar numbers as UCSD's fourth-year starting goalkeeper. Having set the program's single-season saves mark at 114 as a true freshman in 2012, she broke the career standard in that category in the final game of her junior campaign. She then eclipsed the 300-save mark with her seventh in the 56th minute at Azusa Pacific (9/10), reaching double figures for a single contest for the second time as she finished with 11. Brodsky's up-to-date career total stands at 314. She is third in the CCAA with 29 on the year, having twice led the league in saves, in 2012 (114) and 2014 (83). At home against Point Loma (9/5), she kept her 20th individual shutout as a Triton, and now has two on the year and 21 in all. The Agoura Hills product has received postseason recognition from the CCAA for each of her first three years. She made the All-CCAA Second Team as a freshman and junior, garnering All-CCAA honorable mention in between.
YOUTH IS SERVED
Eight of UCSD's 10 goals this season have come from underclassmen, with two each by sophomores Jordyn McNuttand Katie O'Laughlin, and freshman Mary Reilly. The other four scores have come from freshmen Summer Balesand Megumi Barber, redshirt junior Kiera Bocchino, and redshirt sophomore Maxia Espino. Underclassmen have also been the providers on seven of eight assists, led by Bales and McNutt with two apiece. Of UCSD's most recent starting 11, six players were either freshmen or sophomores. Goalkeeper Kelcie Brodsky is the only senior who has seen action.

HEAD COACH BRIAN McMANUS
Brian McManus is in his 29th season in charge of the UCSD women's soccer program. With a career record of 454-82-50, he has achieved the most wins (tied with Gabe Mejail of Merrimack College) in NCAA Division II women's soccer history, and fifth-most (with Mejail) for all divisions. McManus' career winning percentage heading into 2015 of .820, ranked among the top 10 in college women's soccer annals, both overall (No. 9) and Division II only (No. 4). He was also second in win percentage among active Division II coaches. McManus has directed UCSD to seven national championships and a record eight CCAA banners, with the Tritons advancing to the national semifinals a remarkable 15 times in his 28 years. Under his guidance, UCSD has qualified for the NCAA tournament all 13 seasons during the Division III days, and all but three (2004, 2013-14) of 15 years since the move up to Division II. McManus' Tritons missed the CCAA Championship for the first time in 2013, having earned 13 straight berths after joining the conference. They rallied late to achieve a return trip to that event a year ago.
JONESY NOW ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH
Kristin Jones, a two-time national champion and two-time All-American as one of the greatest players to ever come through the storied UCSD women's soccer program, was elevated by Brian McManus to the position of associate head coach on Aug. 28. She is in her 16th straight year as a Triton, and 12th on the UCSD bench. Jones joined McManus' staff immediately upon exhausting her eligibility, ahead of the 2004 season, and became his top assistant in 2006.
ABOUT THE PIONEERS
Cal State East Bay (3-5, 1-1 CCAA) split its first two league matches at home, winning 1-0 over Cal State Monterey Bay before falling 4-1 to SF State. The Pioneers, picked to place ninth in the CCAA, are 1-3 outside of Hayward so far in 2015. Megan Ravenscroft and Rachel Robbert have three goals apiece. Amy Gerace is in her 15th year in charge at her alma mater.
SERIES HISTORY
UCSD leads the all-time series, 7-1, including a 5-1 thrashing in La Jolla last Oct. 12. The Tritons had taken the first six meetings after the Pioneers joined the CCAA for the 2009 season, prior to a 2-1 overtime loss in Hayward in 2013. UCSD had actually taken a 1-0 lead into the final seven minutes of regulation in that one, before the home side equalized and then stole it within two minutes in the first extra period. The Tritons stormed back from a 2-0 halftime deficit to down the Pioneers in double overtime, 3-2, in Hayward in 2012. Izzy Pozurama scored the unassisted winner at 101:47 after Cassie Callahan had levelled matters in the 79th minute. UCSD also won the previous meeting in La Jolla by the final score of 5-1, in 2011.
ABOUT THE WARRIORS
Stanislaus State (5-1-1, 1-0-1 CCAA), formerly known as Cal State Stanislaus, received four of 13 first-place votes and was picked to finish as the league runner-up this season, coming off of its first NCAA Division II West Region crown in 2014. Stan State is a perfect 2-0 outside of Turlock heading into its next match at Cal State San Marcos on Friday afternoon. The Warriors played to a scoreless home draw with SF State last Friday night, before blanking Cal State Monterey Bay, 1-0, on Sunday courtesy of a 75th-minute Gabby Squarcia goal. Gabriel Bolton is the 11th-year Warrior head coach.
SERIES HISTORY
UCSD leads the all-time series, 11-5-2, but dropped the two most recent meetings, 4-1 in Turlock in 2013, and 4-2 in La Jolla last Oct. 10. The teams faced off twice in 2012, with the visiting Warriors first taking the regular-season meeting in La Jolla, 1-0 on an Apryl Whitney goal at 86:41. The Tritons avenged that defeat with a 2-1 decision in the CCAA Championship semifinals in Carson, getting their own late winner at 86:09 from Gabi Hernandez after Cassie Callahan and Karenee Demery's strikes had cancelled each other out earlier in the second half.
