UD WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS 4-2 AT OHIO STATE
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Dayton women's soccer team (2-2-1) fell behind early and never recovered in a 4-2 loss to Ohio State (2-3-0) in the Buckeyes' tournament at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium Friday night.
Sammy Edwards had a hat trick for OSU, scoring in the 2nd, 19th and 76th minutes of the match. She gave the Buckeyes a 2-0 lead at the 18:06 mark.
Junior Ashley Campbell scored in the 32nd minute off a long assist from senior Allison Klinefelter to cut the lead in half. OSU led 2-1 at the half.
The Buckeyes struck first in the second half as well, a goal by Sydney Dudley in the 62nd minute to go up 3-1.
Again, the Flyers battled back. This time sophomore Erin O'Malley found the back of the net in the 68th minute to close the gap to 3-2.
Edwards scored her final goal in the 76th minute to put the Buckeyes up 4-2 for good.
OSU had 13 shots and UD was not far behind with 12 shots. The Flyers had just three shots on goal, with two finding the back of the net. The Buckyes had six shots on goal and four conversions. Dayton, who has had much success on set pieces, had nine cornerkicks to just two for Ohio State.
Dayton is back in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday, Sept. 7 to take on Indiana at 11 a.m. in the Ohio State Tournament.
