UMass Opens 2016 With 2-0 Win at Holy Cross
WORCESTER, Massachusetts - Senior Megan Burke (Shelton, Conn.) and freshman Rebeca Frisk (Long Valley, N.J.) each tallied a pair of second half goals leading the UMass women's soccer team to a 2-0 season-opening win at Holy Cross on Monday afternoon. Burke scored in the 69th minute before Frisk added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute.
For Burke, her marker was the 10th of her career and stands as her fourth career game-winning goal.
Defensively, goalkeeper Cassidy Babin (Winchester, Va.) recorded her seventh career shutout after holding the Crusaders scoreless in the match. The junior was pressed to just make four saves in the contest.
The Minutewomen held a 15-to-7 advantage in shots, while Holy Cross (1-1) held a 6-to-5 edge in corner kicks.
UMass (1-0) returns to action this Thursday, Aug. 25 at UCF in Orlando, Fla., before then heading to USF on Sunday, Aug. 28. The UCF game will kickoff at 7 p.m., while Sunday's match is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
