Unbeaten Hope Women's Soccer Blanks Elmhurst
Erin Jipping and the Hope College wonen's soccer team continued on a roll Friday, improving to 3-0 overall this season by blanking Elmhurst (Ill.) College 2-0 at home.
Jipping, a junior midfielder from Holland (West Ottawa HS), scored one goal and assisted on the other as the Flying Dutch blitzed their nonleague foe with two first-half goals.
Jipping scored from 18 yards out just 2 ½ minutes into the match witnessed by a Van Andel Soccer Stadium crowd of 575. It was her first goal of the season.
Jipping set up sophomore Kristin Hazlett of Bay Village, Ohio (Bay) for her first goal of the season at the 25:30 mark of the first half. Hazlett headed in a cross from Jipping.
The offense was more than enough for the defense led by junior goalkeeper Kat Dickson of Grayslake, Ill. (Grayslake Central). Dickson posted a shutout with four saves.
Dickson said it is awesome to see her teammates play together so well in front of her.
"It looks very cohesive. We're getting very comfortable with each other," Dickson said. "We're hoping to keep that going."
Hope returns to action on Monday, Sept. 9. The Flying Dutch travel to Albion College for a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener at 4 p.m.
