UNF Women's Soccer Records Draw in Season-Opener
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Dorsey recorded seven saves to preserve a shutout as North Florida drew with Charlotte, 0-0, in both teams' season-opener, Friday August 19 at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
Both teams had multiple chances in both halves, but squandered opportunities for the clinching goal in front of the net.
After both teams entered halftime with five shots each and nothing to show for it, Charlotte tallied four of the games first five shots after the break. In the 73rd minute, after a scrum in front of the net, Dorsey was able to clear a 49er shot off the goalline to preserve the 0-0 scoreline.
The last real chance for either team came in the 85th minute, when Charlotte midfielder, Macky Wingo fired a shot off the post that would have essentially sealed the game for the 49ers.
Goalkeeper Alex Kubrick tallied four saves for Charlotte to earn the shutout. Freshman forward Katie Schafer had two shots, both on goal, to lead the Osprey offense.
The 49ers also tallied nine offsides violations for the game, while UNF only had one to its name.
Jacksonville defeated Coastal Carolina 2-1 in the first game of the day.
The Ospreys will play Coastal Carolina at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, while Charlotte will play Jacksonville in the early game at noon.
