USF Faces Clemson in Non-Conference Showdown

TAMPA, OCT. 27, 2014 – The USF men’s soccer team has a chance to make a big statement on Tuesday night when they take on Clemson in a non-conference tilt at Historic Riggs Field.
The Tigers are one of the top teams in the ACC this season and have beaten two ranked opponents in their last three games coming into Tuesday’s match.
The Bulls will be looking to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to Memphis last Saturday night and earn their 10th win of the season. Sophomore midfielder Lindo Mfeka has led USF in American Athletic Conference play with four goals and 11 points, including the Bulls’ only score in their loss to Memphis.
CLEMSON AT A GLANCE
Team Outlook: The Tigers are No. 16 in the RPI and are ranked No. 19 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 25. They have fared well against one of the toughest schedules in the country with three wins over opponents ranked in the NSCAA Top 25 and are currently in a three-way tie atop the ACC Atlantic division with a 4-2-1 conference record.
No player has scored more than three goals for the Tigers, but they boast a very balanced attack that features 13 different players that have scored a goal this season. Clemson is unbeaten in its last four games and will look to improve to 6-2 at home heading into the match against USF.
Player to Watch: T.J. Casner (Jr.-F)
Casner is the leader of the Tigers’ balanced attack, ranking first on the team with 10 points (four goals & three assists).

USF has struggled against Clemson throughout the years, posting only one victory and two ties in 12 meetings with the Tigers. The Bulls and Tigers have not played since 2003, a 2-1 Clemson win. USF will be looking to pick up its first ever road victory against the Tigers and first win overall since 1980, when they posted a 2-1 victory in overtime.
