The second part of the series tracing the development pathways of the U.S. Men’s National Team World Cup roster is below.
Check out the first part earlier this week as TDS looks back at how each player reached the professional ranks and national team.
GK Ethan Horvath
Current Club: Luton Town FC (ENG)
Youth National Team Experience: U14, U15, U18, U20, U23
Youth Club: Real Colorado
The Colorado native was a regular U.S. youth national team player pool coming through the ranks at Real Colorado. Called up to the U20 World Cup in 2015, his club did not grant his release. In 2013, he made the big decision to head abroad, signing his first pro contract at Molde in Norway after turning 18.
GK Sean Johnson
Current Club: New York City FC
Youth National Team Experience: U20
Youth Club: Atlanta Fire
College: UCF
A two-sport athlete from Georgia, Johnson excelled playing soccer and basketball at Brookland High School. His club career took him Atlanta United, before joining the UCF soccer program. He left after two seasons, signing a Generation adidas contract and was selected in the fourth round of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft by the Chicago Fire.
D Aaron Long
Current Club: Free Agent
Youth National Team Experience: N/A
Youth Club: N/A
College: UC Riverside
A football and soccer player at Serrano High School in California, Long joined the UC Riverside men’s soccer team in 2010, playing four seasons for the Big West side. While in college, he played for FC Tucson in the USL PDL. Long’s road to the national team saw him bounce around USL team: Sacramento, Orange County, Portland and Seattle before working his way from New York Red Bulls II to the Red Bulls in 2017.
M Weston McKennie
Current Club: Juventus FC (ITA)
Youth National Team Experience: U14, U15, U17, U18, U19, U20
Youth Club: FC Dallas
While a longtime call-up to various U.S. youth teams, McKennie didn’t play at either youth World Cup he was eligible for. After playing at FC Dallas for more of his teenager years, McKennie signed with Schalke instead of playing at Virginia. That jump-started his career, eventually putting him on a path to Juventus in Italy.
D Shaq Moore
Current Club: Nashville SC
Youth National Team Experience: U17, U18, U20 World Cup (2015)
Youth Club: FC Dallas, Cobb FC, IMG Academy Residency
The Georgia native was part of the U.S. Under-17 Residency Program for the 2013 cycle, as the group failed to reach the World Cup that year. After that disappointment, he joined the FC Dallas Academy before eventually signing his first pro contract in Europe with Huracán, a lower-division club in Spain. He joined Nashville earlier this year.

Morris played three seasons at Stanford from 2013-2015, he led the Cardinal to the first of three straight national championships from 2015-2017. During his time in college, Morris made his full national team debut, an extremely rare occurrence nowadays. The forward has won two MLS Cups and has more than 130 appearances with the Sounders, as he’s torn his ACL twice as a pro.
M Yunus Musah

Youth National Team Experience: N/A
Youth Club: Arsenal FC (ENG)
A longtime member of the Arsenal FC Academy, Musah was a tri-eligible midfielder that opted to represent the United States. He turns 20 during the tournament and will reach that number of caps with the U.S. team next week.
