Utah Valley Downs Southern Utah 2-0
Orem, Utah—Utah Valley scored early and used a strong defensive effort to defeat Southern Utah 2-0 in front of large crowd Monday night at Clyde Field.
The win is the second straight shutout for the Wolverines, who improve to 3-2-1. Southern Utah falls to 1-3-1 with the loss.
The Wolverines scored just 46 seconds into the match when Kali Stubbs kicked a deflected ball over the Southern Utah keeper and into the back of the net. The goal marks Stubbs’ third goal in her last two games.
Utah Valley scored its insurance goal in the 23rd minute when Jamie Brown kicked the ball off the left post and into the net from about 30 yards out. The goal is the first of the season for Brown. The goal was assisted by Stubbs and Kim Stratford.
The Wolverines recorded seven shots on the night, including three on goal. Stubbs and Tori Smith led the Wolverines with two shots each, including one shot each on goal.
UVU keeper Jessica Duffin registered five saves on the night to pick up her second-straight shutout.
The Wolverines return to Clyde Field on Friday to host UTEP. Opening kick is set for 5 p.m. MT.
