Velasquez Named Second Team All-Big Ten
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Orianica Velasquez, a senior on the Indiana Women’s Soccer team, was named Second Team All-Big Ten yesterday (Oct. 31) prior to the start of the 2012 Big Ten Women’s Soccer tournament in Bloomington.
Velasquez is the first player to receive All-Big Ten accolades since Kelly Lawrence was named Second Team All-Big Ten in 2009.
This season, she posted seven goals for the third straight year, to go with four assists – matching a career high – and her 18 points were tied for the team lead. She turned it up in Big Ten play, registering five goals and one assist.
The native of Bogota, Colombia, Velasquez closed out her career at Indiana with 26 career goals, which is tied for fourth on the all-time list at IU. She also added 12 assists, which ties for eighth in program history and her 64 career points are fourth-most in school history.
