Wagner Adds Grad Transfer Mariana Jaramillo
Staten Island, NY – Wagner head women's soccer coach Phil Casella announced the addition of a graduate transfer joining the roster for the 2019 season in Mariana Jaramillo, who arrives on Grymes Hill after graduating from Iona College of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) in May.
"Mariana offers a wealth of collegiate experience and is the final piece to our 2019 roster puzzle," commented Casella. "She is a crafty player with the ability to control the tempo in the midfield. She will blend in nicely with the group we have returning and the nine new additions we have added to the mix."
In her final season at Iona, Jaramillo played in five matches before suffering a season-ending injury. She notched an assist in Iona's 3-2 victory over fellow Northeast Conference (NEC) member, Sacred Heart, back on August 17.
In 2017, Jaramillo appeared in 20 matches while earning the starting nod in 19 of those contests. Overall, the Clifton, NJ native appeared in 62 matches for Iona while starting in 42 contests. She scored five career goals while adding four career assists for a total of 14 career points. She finished her tenure at the New Rochelle institution ranked third on the all-time career shots list with 123 and sixth all-time with 45 shots on goal.
Additionally, trained as a member of the U-20 Colombian National Team for the 2015 South American U-20 Women's Football Championship, which was held in Santos, Brazil from November 18 through December 3, 2015.
Prior to enrolling at Iona, Jaramillo had a standout career for the Clifton High School Mustangs, under the direction of head coach, Stan Lembryk. A four-year Honor Roll selection in the classroom, Jaramillo earned honorable mention honors in her freshman season.
After sitting out her sophomore campaign, she returned to the pitch in her junior season to collect Second-Team All-County honors. In her final season, Jaramillo received First Team Big North Conference and Second-Team All-County accolades.
Jaramillo will have just the 2019 season to compete for the Seahawks as she is planning to pursue an MBA in Management from Wagner.
The 2019 season officially begins for the Green & White on August 23 as the squad will square off against Rider in Lawrenceville, NJ at 7:00 p.m.
