Teaneck, NJ – The Wagner College women's soccer team battled for 110 minutes in a 0-0 double-overtime tie Thursday against the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights. The Seahawks move to 5-10-2 overall and 3-4-2 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Knights stand at 7-5-6 overall and remain unbeaten in conference play at 6-0-3.
Tonight's contest was the Green & White's final road tilt of 2019 as they will close out the year at home on Sunday, November 3, as they welcome the Merrimack Warriors on Senior Day.
The first real chance of the match for the visiting Seahawks came in the 14th minute as junior forward Mya Donnelly sent a shot on goal that was stopped by FDU's goalkeeper, Amanda Fitzgerald. The Knights set up a pair of chances, as two minutes later, FDU tested Wagner senior goalkeeper, Delaney Beck, with Maja Skansberg lofting a shot towards the upper portion of the net that Beck was able to make the save on.
In the first half, Fairleigh Dickinson outshot the Seahawks, 11-4, as Beck made six saves, which included a stop on Skansberg two minutes before the intermission.
When play resumed, the Knights controlled much of the tempo, but the Seahawks continued to keep pace and were nearly rewarded as freshman defender, Annie White, fired off a shot but was denied by Fitzgerald as the match headed to the first overtime session.
The Seahawks took control of the momentum in the opening minutes of the first overtime with senior Autumn Clark delivering a chance, that was unsuccessful as Fitzgerald made the stop. Donnelly tried for the game-winner thirty-five seconds later but she as well was denied.
In the 95th, Beck was challenged by Lea Egner, who created space and booted a low attempt to the bottom center of goal that was stopped by the veteran Seahawk keeper. FDU had a final chance before the end of the first extra frame, as Alexiane Marquis misfired on her chance in the 99th, as the ball sailed over the goal.
The Knights commenced the second overtime period with two straight corners before Marquis' chance trickled left of the goal in the 102nd. Following a foul to the Seahawks, FDU tried to capitalize on its possession creating a trio of attempts over two minutes, with the last chance by Isabelle Udovc being stopped by Beck.
In the final seconds of the match, Donnelly had a chance for the golden goal but her chance lofted high over the net as the final horn sounded.
Fairleigh Dickinson took 27 shots to Wagner's 11. Beck was credited with nine stops, upping her career total to 155. Donnelly led the Seahawk offense with four shots, two on goal while, sophomore Luisa Barone added three shots and junior midfielder Julia Fitzsimmons had two shots.
