Warhawk Men Open With Shutout Win
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team wasted little time getting the 2015 season started. The Warhawks scored goals in the 11th and 12th minutes and cruised to a 5-0 victory at Wisconsin Lutheran College Tuesday night.
Sophomore Dylan Hottsmith (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) put the Warhawks on the board in the 11th minute off of a pass from Carmel Nezien (Pouni, Burkina Faso/Lycee De Tenado). Thirty-eight seconds later Hottsmith assisted a Kyle Ricely (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East)laser from 25 yards out and the Warhawks were quickly ahead 2-0.
The Warhawks continued to pepper the WLC goal with shots but went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Three shots in the first 17 minutes of the second half kept the pressure on the Warriors. The Warhawks finally broke through again in the 66th minute when Zach Manibog (West Chicago, Ill./St. Charles East) headed one past the keeper off of a double assist by Taylor Ortiz (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) and Nezien.
With less than 10 minutes remaining in the match Jordan Kayser (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) pushed the Warhawks out ahead 4-0 after burying a shot in the back of the net off of a pass from Deklan Corbett (Barrie, Ontario, Canada/Innisdale).
Adrian Castillo (Menasha, Wis./Menasha) added the final tally of the match scoring on a pass from Callan Lucjak (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) in the 85th minute.
The Warhawks outshot the Warriors 22-6 in the match including 8-3 on goal. Alex Buchman(Waterford, Wis./Waterford) made all three saves for the Warhawks.
The Warhawks return to the field tomorrow night for their home opener against the Milwaukee School of Engineering at 7 pm at Fiskum Field.
