Warhawk Women Fall to Eagles in WIAC Semis
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team saw their 2018 season come to an end with a 2-0 loss to No. 23 UW-La Crosse in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semifinals Thursday Evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse.
The Warhawks surrendered a goal in each half and were outshot 18-4 to finish the season with a record of 10-10-1 overall.
Prior to Tuesday night's loss, the Warhawks had won four of their last five matches.
Sophomore forward Anna Boyd (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) led the Warhawks with two shots Tuesday night and finishes the season as the team leader in goals for the second season in a row. Boyd finishes with nine goals, followed by freshmen Carli Nehls (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) and Savannah Curtis (Lodi, Wis./Lodi) with four each.
Junior goalkeeper Nina Yonan (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) did all she could by making six saves in the match but took the loss to fall to 7-10-1 this season. Yonan finishes the year with 90 saves, eight most in one season in school history.
UW-W says good-bye to four seniors: Payton DeLuga (Algonquin, Ill./Dundee Crown), Mackenzie Serbousek (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Cedar Rapids Prairie), Lauren Otto (Richmond, Ill./Richmond Burton Community) and Alyssa Lennon (Oshkosh, Wis./Oshkosh West). DeLuga, Serbousek and Otto have been regular starters since their freshmen season while Lennon has come off the bench for most of her career, but has played in nearly every match and amassed over 3,000 minutes of playing time.
The seniors were a part of the program's two most successful seasons; a trip to the Sweet Sixteen in 2015 and a school record 22 wins in 2016.
