Warhawks' Streak to 30 with 5-0 Win
A three-goal first half carried the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team to their 30th consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season victory Saturday in Stevens Point. The Warhawks topped the Pointers 5-0 to improve to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the WIAC. UW-Stevens Point falls to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the WIAC.
It didn't take long for the Warhawks to snag the lead. Brianna Reid (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) received a pass from Morgan Beaty (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb), carried it three dribbles and beat the goalie one-on-one to give UW-Whitewater a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of play.
Marie Lesperance (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South) made it 2-0 in the eleventh minute of play after scoring on a pass from Carly Pottle (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East).
Reid scored her team leading eleventh goal of the season in the 14th minute off of a pass from Lesperance. Reid corralled the ball and shot it over the goalie that was out near the top of the box.
The Warhawks carried their 3-0 advantage into the intermission.
Twenty-six minutes into the second half Karina Rosales (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) headed in a free kick by Carina Krausert (Delafield, Wis./Catholic Memorial) for a 4-0 Warhawk lead.
After several substitutions by both teams, the Warhawks added a fifth goal, this time by Kara Jahn (Oregon, Wis./Oregon). Jahn knocked in her first goal of the season after a Rosales shot was saved by the keeper and rebounded back to her feet.
Erin Doody (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way Central) earned the win for the Warhawks posting one save to improve to 7-2. She split the shutout with teammate Elly Diderrich (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) who came in to play the final 14:05 of the match.
The Warhawks will travel to Dubuque, Iowa to face Loras College for their next game on Wednesday, September 30.
