Warhawks Win 2-0; Five in a Row
After a 1-3 start to the 2012 season the UW-Whitewater women's soccer team has rattled off five straight wins including a 2-0 victory over Carroll University Tuesday at Fiskum Field in Whitewater. The Warhawks improve to 6-3-0 overall and the Pioneers fall to 5-3-1.
After a scoreless first half both teams turned up the offensive intensity. The Warhawks' Alyssa Chamberlain (DePere/DePere) had a shot blocked in the 59th minute that rebounded to the feet of Chrissy Tooren (Hoffman Estates, IL/Hoffman Estates) who hammered it past the Pioneer goalkeeper for her sixth goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.
UW-W extended their lead to 2-0 in the 67th minute when some nice passing in the box set up Jenna Woodson (Menomonee Falls/Menomonee Falls) for her fourth goal of the season. Chamberlain and Sarah Sedlar (Racine/Case) were both credited with assists on the goal.
Moments later Jordan Myers (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley) made two saves on shots by Carroll's Elian Sauve. Carroll continued their pressure after UW-W made a substitution at goalie. Emily Haeger (Rolling Meadows, IL/Rolling Meadows), the new Warhawk goalkeeper, made two saves in her 18 minutes of play. Myers finished the game with six saves.
With Tooren's performance in the last two games (two goals and two assists), she has cracked the top five in the three major offensive categories for soccer at UW-Whitewater. She is now fourth in career points (81), fifth in career goals (33), and fifth in career assists (15). Myers is also in the top five for two goalkeeper categories. Myers, who is just a sophomore, is fifth in career saves (120), and tied for fifth in career shutouts (7).
The Warhawks will look to run their winning streak to six when they return to the field on Friday, September 28 for a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match against UW-Stout at Fiskum Field in Whitewater at 6:00 pm. UW-W is 2-0-0 in WIAC action and the Blue Devils are 1-1-1.
