Wilkes edges Rutgers-Camden women, 1-0
Wilkes' second-half goal edges Raptors
HAVERFORD, Penn. (September 3, 2011) – The Wilkes University women’s soccer team scored the lone goal of the game at 60:11 and went on to win its season opener, 1-0, over Rutgers University-Camden on the first day of Haverford College’s 2011 Kick-Off Tournament.
In the first game of the day, Arcadia University defeated host Haverford, 2-1, to advance to Sunday’s 1 p.m. championship game. Arcadia will face Wilkes, followed by the consolation game of Rutgers-Camden against Haverford at 3:30 p.m.
The Colonels out-shot the Scarlet Raptors, 14-8, in the game, with seven shots in each half. It wasn’t until 15:11 into the second half, however, that Wilkes broke the scoreless tie on an unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder Danielle Brewer (Milton, PA/Milton).
The Scarlet Raptors drop to 0-1-1 after being blanked for the second straight game. They played to a 0-0 tie against Salisbury University in their season opener Thursday.
Wilkes held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalie Leighanna Milby (Blackwood, NJ/Highland Regional) made six saves for the Scarlet Raptors. Sophomore Sam Lindo (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) made five saves to notch the shutout for Wilkes.
