W&M Defeats ODU, 4-0
NORFOLK, VA-- The Tribe of William and Mary defeated the ODU Men's Soccer team, 4-0 Saturday evening before a crowd of 1180 at the ODU Soccer Complex. The victory puts the Tribe up 10-0 in the Optima Health Challenge between the two schools.
The Tribe scored two goals in the both halves. In the first, Jackson Eskay scored 4:10 into the game on an assist from Josh West. With 15 minutes left in the half, Chris Albiston hit Chris Perez for a 2-0 lead. Albiston then scored on a break-a-way with an assist from Jackson Eskay. The Tribes final goal came at the 73:46 mark by Josh West off a rebound from a missed shot off the post by Ryan Flesch.
ODU outshot W&M, 20-12 overall and 7-6 in shots on goals, but the Tribe keeper David Phillips made five saves and also got help from his defensive teammates who made two. ODU's freshman keeper Matthew Sanches had two saves on the night.
The Monarchs return home for the 38th annual Stihl Soccer Classic Sept. 13 and 15. ODU will host current second ranked Creighton, last years national semifinalist Friday night at 7 p.m. Central Florida and William and Mary are also in the field.
