Wolves blank Francis Marion
NEWBERRY, SC - Erika Linch scored a pair of first-half goals in a span of nine minutes to spark Newberry College to a 6-0 non-conference win over Francis Marion University, Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 7) in women's soccer action.
Francis Marion (0-3-0) will return to Florence to entertain Carson-Newman University on Saturday at 4 p.m. Newberry evens its season mark at 1-1-0.
Linch's two scores, in the 21st and 29th minutes, staked Newberry to a 2-0 halftime advantage.
The Wolves outshot the Patriots 30-5 and led 8-2 in corner kicks.
FMU freshman Carli Gauthier registered four of the Patriots attempts, while junior Haley Bigler had the other.
Junior Casey Murakami and freshman Micahla Kitchen split time in the goal for Francis Marion. Murakami made five saves in the opening 45 minutes, while Kitchen registered three stops in the second half.
Three Newberry goalkeepers, including starter Kodi Jean Johnson, combined on the shutout.
