Women's 3 Thoughts: Heading into Conf. play
There was something that felt pivotal about Rutgers’ 3-2 win over LSU. The Scarlet Knights were trailing 2-0 at half time, and looked a team outclassed. LSU led in shots, 10-4 and other than an early look from Riley Tiernan, Rutgers hadn’t created any real opportunities.
That made their second half turnaround even more impressive. In the 49th minute, the Scarlet Knights pulled one back thanks to a neat finish from Sam Kroeger. The second goal didn’t come until the 73rd. And the winner — a wonderful, curled thing — finally arrived in the 84th. It was a dramatic comeback, one that upheld a seven-game win streak — and also showed that this team might just be ready to compete long into November.
There are three other perfect teams in college soccer as conference play starts, but none have faced a dire scoreline like the reigning Big Ten champs. Still, the Scarlet Knights’ heroics to maintain an undefeated record isn’t the only takeaway as the college soccer season shifts into conference play. Here’s a look at where the season stands.
