Women's Division I Top 25: Sept. 22
Call it the week without upsets.
The past few week of Division I women's soccer action lacked upsets, at least when it came to the Top 10 ranked squads from the TDS Top 25. As a result, there's very little change in this week's TDS Top 25, at least at the top. The 10 squads ranked at the top combined for a record of 15-0 since last Monday.
That's not to say there weren't any close calls. No. 5 Florida State erased a two-goal deficit against Connecticut on Thursday, eventually winning 3-2. The same happened to No. 10 North Carolina, which came from behind against Notre Dame, eventually winning in overtime on Saturday. No. 1 UCLA only scored a lone goal in a 1-0 win over Texas, and No. 9 Florida edged SEC counterparts Alabama 2-1.
Perfect records also remained intact, as No. 2 Virginia (9-0-0) and No. 3 Virginia Tech (10-0-0) extended winning streaks as they began ACC play. The Cavaliers topped Miami (FL) on Saturday, and the Hokies got the better of Clemson 2-0 on Friday. Wins over Memphis and Tulsa ensured that No. 7 Texas Tech remained in that category as well.
Ranked teams did fall in the Top 25, as No. 19 USC fell 2-1 on Sunday against No. 11 Pepperdine, the aforementioned No. 16 Irish were stunned at home by the Tar Heels and No. 22 Kansas lost 1-0 to Marquette.
