Women's Midseason Top 100 Freshmen
The TDS Midseason Freshmen Rankings are here, grading the 100 most impactful rookies halfway through the women's college soccer season. Linda Ullmark tops the list, followed by 99 first-year talents enjoying successful campaigns in one way or another.
1. Linda Ullmark, North Carolina - A day-one starter for the No. 1 team in the country, Ullmark has made the transition to college soccer look extremely easy. Add that the two-time Gatorade New York POTY has found a goal-scoring touch of late, and it is clear she could be the catalyst to a deep NCAA tournament run.
2. Keegan Smith, Arkansas - Another former Gatorade New York POTY and day-one starter for a team that has reached the No. 1 ranking, Smith has been arguably the best goalkeeper in the country. The Razorback star is one of the best athletes in college soccer, regardless of position, and doubles as an elite ball-playing goalkeeper, evidenced by winning her Gatorade POTY as an attacking midfielder. And with as many clean sheets (6) as goals conceded, Smith could lead Arkansas to a first-ever College Cup.
3. Izzy Engle, Notre Dame - Her goal-scoring may have cooled lately, but at one point, Engle had ten goals through her first seven collegiate games. The Minnesota native brings a frightening combination of speed and technique that makes an outsized impact even if she is not finding the back of the net.
4. Trinity Armstrong, North Carolina - Set to miss a significant chunk of the season with her selection to represent the U.S. at the U17 World Cup, Armstrong already has a resume to boast. The Tar Heel freshman ranks 5th on the team in minutes and has been a significant part of a defense with eight clean sheets in the last ten.
5. Ashlyn Puerta, Florida State - The Seminoles might be struggling by their lofty standards, but Puerta has been a positive force with her three goals and four assists tying for second on the team. The return of several attacking stars from the U20 World Cup will likely see the California native take a step back, but as of today, she has been among the most impactful rookies in the country.
