Women's soccer beats Oneonta in Overtime
ROCHESTER, NY -- Senior captain Kasey Dobrodziej (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) scored off a corner kick with 5:26 remaining in overtime to give the RIT (1-1-0) women's soccer team a 1-0 win over SUNY Oneonta in the second game of the 2011 Rachel Miller Memorial Classic.
Dobrodziej leaped up and headed a perfect shot into the lower right corner to give the Tigers their first win of the season. Junior Jackie Jacobson had the assist on the play, serving the ball into the box off a corner kick.
The Red Dragons out shot the Tigers 13-8. Alyssa Henkel (Newark, NY/Newark) picked up her first win of the season allowing no goals and making four saves. Amy Lusby took the loss for SUNY Oneonta.
RIT took four corner kicks to six for the Red Dragons.
RIT had a great chance with about 5:30 minutes to play in regulation to take a lead. Rachael Bromson (Suffield, CT/Suffield) played a ball to Alexa Martinez (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) in the Oneonta box. She dropped a pass back to her sistser Jamie Martinez (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) who fired a low shot that Lusby dove and knocked away.
The Tigers return to action next Saturday when they play Carnegie Mellon in the first round of the Carnegie Mellon Invitational in Pittsburgh, Penn.
