Women’s Soccer Blanks Anna Maria, 10-0
The women's soccer team posted a commanding 10-0 shutout against the Anna Maria Amcats in a Great Northeast Athletics Conference contest at Pierce Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats got on the board just 1:13 into the game with a goal from Berkeley Cecchini-Bond (Uncasville, Conn.) as she put in a crossing pass from freshman Kayla Sypek (Westhampton, Mass.). Johnson & Wales controlled the action the rest of the half to take a 9-0 lead heading into halftime, including two goals by senior Katlyn Gerrish (North Stonington, Conn.) and two assists by freshman Mackenzie Forbeck (Sussex, N.J.). The Wildcats outshot the Amcats 23-0 in the half.
JWU increased the lead to 10-0 on a goal by Samantha Reynolds (Plymouth, Mass.) at 58:49 on an assist by Stephanie Miezin (Cranbury, N.J.). The Wildcats controlled the action for the remainder of the game as they held on to the 10-0 victory.
Anna Maria goalie Amanda Hevy (North Brookfield, Mass.) made eight saves in the losing effort.
With the win Johnson & Wales is now 1-3, 1-0 in the GNAC while Anna Maria falls to 0-4 and 0-1 in conference play. The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, September 14th when they travel to Mount Ida for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at 3:30 p.m.
